چکیده

The cooling dynamics of glass-embedded noble metal nanoparticles with diameters ranging from 4 to 26 nm were studied using ultrafast pump-probe spectroscopy. Measurements were performed probing away from the surface plasmon resonance of the nanoparticles to avoid spurious effects due to glass heating around the particle. In these conditions, the time-domain data reflect the cooling kinetics of the nanoparticle. Cooling dynamics are shown to be controlled by both thermal resistance at the nanoparticule–glass interface, and heat diffusion in the glass matrix. Moreover, the interface conductances are deduced from the experiments and found to be correlated to the acoustic impedance mismatch at the metal/glass interface. ha l-0 04 40 43 9, v er si on 1 10 D ec 2 00 9 Author manuscript, published in "Physical Review B 80, 19 (2009) 195406" DOI : 10.1103/PhysRevB.80.195406

Luminescence Enhancement in Eu(III)-Doped Tellurite Glass Embedded Silver Nanoparticles

Introduction of the metallic nanoparticles (NPs) in the bulk glass received a large interest due to their versatile applications. The effect of silver NPs on optical properties of the Eu3+-doped zinc tellurite glasses is presented for the first time. Glass samples are prepared by melt-quenching technique. The surface plasmon absorption bands of silver NPs are recorded in the visible ...

Experimental Investigation of Heat Transfer Enhancement in a Finned U-Shaped Heat Pipe of CPU Cooling System Using Different Fluids

This paper experimentally studies the heat absorption performance of a heat sink with vertical embedded heat pipes in the aluminum blade. The cooling system with embedded heat pipes distributes heat from the CPU to both the base plate and the heat pipes, and then transfer heat from fins to the Environment. The thermal resistance and heat transfer coefficient are evaluated for natural convection...

Light dynamics in glass-vanadium dioxide nanocomposite waveguides with thermal nonlinearity.

We address the propagation of laser beams in SiO(2)-VO(2) nanocomposite waveguides with thermo-optical nonlinearity. We show that the large modifications of the absorption coefficient as well as notable changes of the refractive index of VO(2) nanoparticles embedded into the SiO(2) host media that accompany the semiconductor-to-metal phase transition may lead to optical limiting in the near-IR ...

Atomic Insights into the Melting Behavior of Metallic Nano-catalysts

In the present study, molecular dynamics simulations have been utilized to provide fundamental understanding of melting behavior of pure Pd and Pt nanoparticles with the size of 10 nm in diameter, both free and graphene-supported during continuous heating. The embedded atom method is employed to model the metal-metal interactions, whereas a Lennard-Jones potential is applied to describe the met...
